It's a beautiful day for a war.

As the mortal world slowly slips into chaos of the godly kind, Alexandria Andros must overcome a stunning defeat that has left her shaken and in doubt of their ability to end this war once and for all.

And with all the obstacles between Alex and her happily-ever-after with the swoonworthy Aiden St. Delphi, they must now trust a deadly foe as they travel deep into the Underworld to release one of the most dangerous gods of all time.

In the stunning, action-packed climax to the bestselling Covenant series, Alex must face a terrible choice: the destruction of everything and everyone she holds dear… or the end of herself.
"It's a beautiful day for a war."
What war are you talking about? Did I miss it while I was reading this?

It's been 5 months since I finished this book and up to now I am still debating with myself. In goodreads, I didn't rate it and wrote a very comprehensible review that mirrored my feelings towards the book.

So you see, the Covenant series is one of the series that I really liked since book one, Half-blood, and it appalls me to say that I found this book a DISMAY.

Oh that sounded harsh. I have a lot of reasons to lay down right now.

"Alex and Aiden all lovey dovey (aka making out, having sex, lusting over each other, kissing here and there, lust lust, sex til the end)"

I just hated that the romance became the center of this book. We got four books of non-stop romance already, can't we take a chill from the mushy-bushy and cringe inducing romance already? The readers need tension, need action, need WAR!!!!!!!! From book one to book four, everything was pre-war and now that we're on the last book WHAT HAPPENED? I think Jennifer got confused while writing this. On the previous books, the fine line between YA and NA was becoming thinner and thinner, and in this book it finally turned to NA.

"Oh, Alex you are a special snowflake / Oh, Aiden you are the perfect man in this world. And your eyes. Oh my god your gray eyes turns silver I AM LUSTING OVER THOSE EYES"

The thing is I lost count on how many times this thing happened in the whole series. At first I just shrugged it off, but as the series continued I found myself reading the same "gray eyes turn silver" line and I can't help but to get annoyed. There are a lot more substantial things to think of other than eyes that change colors when you two are obviously lusting over each other. Alex was so WHINY, rash, reckless and injudicious in this book. Nope. Nope. Nope. I want to understand where she's coming from. She got a hell of a problem on her hands but still that doesn't mean that she has to act dense at 90% of the book. I just abhor heroines who acts like that. Come to think of it, I totally liked her snark and wit on the previous book. She was an interesting character way back, but everything changed because of the romance. MEH. Aiden on the other hand was too perfect for me. Typical hero.

So we have Seth on the other page. He saw the light and bargained his life for Alex. UGHHHH SETH. I really like Seth you know?! And it was a horrible experience reading how bad he became, how he tried to reconcile and now how he sacrificed.

Lazy plot with nothing much to look forward to. Predictable, nothing but pure mediocre. Everything plummeted on the last book, what's more to hate? Obviously I was so mad while I was half way, but since I've been dying to read this book I pushed through the last page and totally made an awful face as a post-read reaction. HA.

CONVENTIONAL ENDING. PERIOD.

  1. Oh man was this the last book in the series? That must've sucked. I haven't heard of Covenant before, but it absolutely sucks when the author just focuses on the romance over EVERYTHING ELSE.

    Nice review Abby! haha :D

  3. The whole 'sacrifice' way to conveniently end a love triangle is such a cop out and an insult to readers....

  4. :( It sucks that this one was such a disappointment to you. And the last book in the series too! It sounds like this series is a bit too heavy on the romance for me, so I think I'll skip it.

  5. I was unfortunately disappointed by this book, as well. :( There was so much room for amazing god fighting and badassery and I felt like that potential wasn't really used.
I am looking forward to JLA's series about Seth, though. Perhaps he can redeem himself and become the badboy we loved in the beginning!

  7. Aww...I'm sorry this one disappointed you Abby! The whiny heroine and the underdeveloped characters are definitely worrysome. And it hasn't been getting the best reviews either! I think I'm going to give this series a miss as it sounds like it's going to disappoint me just from what I've read in your review. Thanks for sharing though! <3
