I Acknowledge the Acknowledgements

by - 8:14 PM

OH MY GOD. THE GRAPHIC LACKED "D" DDDDDDD! IM SORRY GUYS! HAHAHAHA I hope you forgive me! See the pun there. I am awesome. No, I am not kididng. Okay, kidding aside (oh gosh I just slipped, no, I am still not kididng.) I devotedly read the dedications and acknowledgements. There's something so bizarre and touching when it comes to these parts of the book. It feels like I am able to also thank the people who helped created the books that I read through an author's acknowledgement. I like to hear the author's voice through these parts of the book. It's that moment when they emerge from their characters. Some dedications and acknowledgements no matter how simple they are, bring out tiny droplets on my face and some *hearts on my eyes*.
Usually, it's the last book in the series that totally has the most emotional thank you's and I admit that I highly anticipate for them just like what happened to *coughs* COHF and Champion. But some dedications are so waggish and witty. These are very special and I get that cackling noise so ugly I think my neighbors are going to sue me. So here I am sharing my favorite dedications and acknowledgements even from books that I haven't read (but peaked on the acknowledgement parts because I'm all agog. And the consequence sometimes is I get to ACCIDENTALLY read the last words in the ending silly spoilers corrupting my eyes.)

Cracked me up so hard: Rick Riordan's dedication in The House of Hades. Seriously this author loves to troll the readers. I have to admit that I saw this before I even got a copy *glares at spoilers everywhere* I wasn't expecting this to happen, but at the same time I am not surprised because dude that's Rick Riordan we're talking about! XD

Have you seen this? Rick Riordan’s dedication in HOUSE OF HADES is beyond wonderful. I think we can forgive him. #childrensbooks #authors #heroesofolympus #rickriordan @rickriordan

I cried: The Mortal of Instruments has a fair share of a beautiful place inside my heart. It holds a lot of firsts. Clockwork Princess doesn't really have that kind of acknowledgement I was looking for (no issue there!), that's why when I read CoHF's dedication my eyes felt like a twig nestled on it. I cried. I did.
"for all the glitter in Magnus's loft" T__T (sorry for crappy pic lol bad photog skill)

Forever memorable: C.S Lewis' famous dedication in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. "Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." *sniffs*I wrote this a lot but to reiterate, I grew up with Narnia books:

Marie Lu's dedication in Champion. Thank you Ms. Marie *sobs*

[[[[[GROSS SOBBING]]]]]: Lemony Snicket's dedications in every book in A Series of Unfortunate Events. I just have no words for it.
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
Okay so this is what I am telling up there. I haven't read Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi, but I already read the last page. Ooops. The message at the ending is so wonderful and inspiring.

AAAAAAND that's it for now! I swear I am going to compile more of my faves in the future! Actually I already have but let's just save them for other days. Mark my words: Part 2 some day some day :p

How about you guys? Do you skip these parts? Or you eagerly read them? Or you read them? or you read? Kidding. Anyway, do share your favorite acknowledgements and dedications!

I am a little off blogging for school has been a big big big big gigantic ball of distraction and responsibility. I still have something to ask you guys. It's sort of a big thing....for me. LOL. Maybe on my next post I'll do ask for your opinion so yeah. I hope you guys have a good day!!

  2. I LOVE THIS POST. I always read the acknowledgements and dedications because they give me fEELS and they make me laugh and also, they remind me that while I may be utterly head over heels with a book, the person who wrote it is a person, not a superhuman, so I CAN DO IT TO. *shakes head silently* *bangs head against the wall.*..oh Dobby...;)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

  3. When I saw this post, I was like, you better have included the Lemony Snicket dedications because oh my lord, they are the most devastatingly beautiful things on the planet. But anywayyy I do always read the acknowledgements and dedications. I don't know why I do but I think it's like the perfect way to end a book, to read about all the people who helped the author along the way.

  4. I read the acknowledgment page. It’s nice to know who inspires the authors or who they want to dedicate their work for; sometimes they even tell their readers the journey of how the book came to be. It always refreshing to know these little bits about the book and the author.

  5. I always read the dedications and acknowledgements. Authors give us magic, adventure, wonderful characters. They open our minds and give us new worlds. But through the dedication and acknowledgements, we get to know them as people, not as writers. I never feel like I'm done with a book until I've read the acknowledgements and learned what and who helped the author bring the book to the readers.

  6. I love the acknowledgment (HARD WORD) page. I think it's awesome to see who was the inspiration. The one in Tiger Lily is one of my favorites 'For girls with messy hair an hungry hearts.'

I don't really read the acknowledgements but I always love reading the thing at the end. That's the dedication right? Or are those acknowledgments too... But I love seeing how the author wrote the book which is why I love the end. :D

  12. I read the acknowledgements if they're not too long. Like Orson Scott Card's acknowledgements can be pretty damn long and I skip them a lot lol. But wow, these acknowledgements that you posted here are really gut-wrenching. Like I'm reading these Lemony Snicket ones and I think my heart is being torn from all angles. And C.S. Lewis' one made me teary-eyed, and I haven't read a single book of his! It makes me somehow remember that life is fast, it is fleeting, and soon we will all grow old and we leave our legacy to the younger generation and thoughts like that make me feel depressed lol

    1. Aww Faye, you just made me a little misty-eyed with your words!! <3 Life is short that's why we should spend it with the people we love!! :D CS Lewis's dedication just brings feels. I was young when I read the book, but now that I am almost 18 years old, that's when things got too deep :)

  13. "Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." The Narnia books hold a really special place in my heart, but goodness gracious! This is one of the most gut-wrenching dedications / acknowledgements ever. So sweet. <3

I read acknowledgements - usually if I liked the book and want to know a bit more about it and to see everyone who has impacted the author and helped him / her along the journey.

Thanks for sharing Abby, and great post! <3

  14. I absolutely adore the C.S Lewis acknowledgement (loving the pun BTW). There have been a few lately in which authors have not only thanked bloggers, but listed their blog names. I've be lucky enough to have seen not only my name included, but one also featured a heartfelt message.

The short thank you page before the story, but now I'll be checking them all. Beautiful posts Abby <3
