Top Ten Tuesday (13): Blogging/Reading Confessions

by - 12:31 AM

Anything bookish topic under the sun. Hosted by Broke and Bookish.
It usually takes me 2-4 days to read 300+ page book. There are barriers in my reading time, 1. school 2. school 3. school 4. I really take my time reading. Some books I try to devour on one sitting (happens often especially with helluva awesome books).
Maybe because I am still new (almost 1 year) to this community that's why I sometimes feel a little out of the circle. I am still coping around here, but so far I've already knew and befriend awesome bloggers to keep me inside the circle.
I am good in commenting back, but I lack on the commenting committee. I do read posts and sometimes I hesitate if a simple generic comment like "Great review! I think this book is interesting." something like that feels insincere. But I am sincere! I swear.
I SUCK AT WRITING REVIEWS. That should be the headline OW! I just literally dump my thoughts in one post without even thinking of a pattern or format of how it should be. Then I'll feel a little jealous over some credible reviewers whose reviews are always comprehensible and well-woven. The scenario is:

*finishes a review* HUZZAAAH I AM THE BEST IN THE WOORRRLD!!! *awkward dance*

*reads someone's review* *slowly backs away* *re-evaluates life* *isolates self on a cave* *never go near technology again*
I really feel bad about this. I should do something to fix this evildoing.
*another shrug*
Sometimes I feel like I am the only one in this world who doesn't go all-heart-eyes on John Green's books. I feel uncomfortable because everyone around me loves his books and I don't. Even my sister nearly choked the hell out of me when I kept telling her I don't like him even his books. I was bored and unaffected with his books. The writing is good, but the emotional transfer never really happened.
Just like now, I didn't intend to write a TTT post. I just woke up today and thought "Let me do a TTT," and then this happened. I basically write whatever pops in my mind. I tried formatting a schedule once for the month of June, but unfortunately I wasn't able to conduct it. (loser).
This is like the bajillionth time I changed template. I tweak here and there. I am never contented of the widgets, graphics, colors etc. I hope to find THAT web design that will last for a long time.
It's sweet if you come to think of it. A guy who's head over heels over a girl, but the thing with most alpha males is that they they tend to be possessive and a little crazy over the heroines which turns to an abusive relationship. Perfect example: Beautiful Disaster. There are new adults with alpha males that have personalities I can endure, but most alpha males are excruciating...but hot. So there's that. Just choose one.
This is everyone's confession. Barely a confession but a matter of fact. When will we ever tame our TBR? Answer:

  1. I think two days is a great pace for finishing a book. It takes about the same number of days for me to finish one too, maybe longer at times. And yeah, our TBR probably look alike LOL :) Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Love your list :)
People say I'm a fast reader, but I don't think I am. I'd just rather read than watch TV.

  3. Wait, two days to finish a book is slow? Welp, I guess I better give up at life. -_- I don't even know who John Green is... Is this something I should know? I totally feel you on the blog design! I just got a new one and I LOVED it when I got it and now I'm looking at it and considering doing something new. I really feel like I need to just -stop- now. I'm okay with alpha males as long as they aren't total jerks, but for some reason a lot of authors can't separate the two... Great list!

    1. I got a little excited over the slow reader part, it was supposed to be an interval like 2-4 days! I changed it now. :D I loved your new design! It looks fresh and fab! F&F! Some alpha males I can tolerate while some..not at all.

  4. Hahah don't worry about your blog layout it looks fabulous! Though the truth is I always try to tweak my layout as well, so I don't think I should be saying anything aha. And although I'm not a slow reader, it takes me a while to actually find the time to pick up the book and start reading. And I have to agree with you about John Green. The only book I've loved by him is TFIOS, but I also read Looking for Alaska, and it was just eh. I might have to read more by him in order to develop an opinion, but he's not my top favorite author.

    1. Thank you, Val! :D
Read 4 books and I already concluded that he'll never be on my top authors. His books (that I read) were just mehhh, some even unbearable.

  5. Sometimes I'm a slow reader, too. I just got out of a really bad reading & blogging slump, in which I took over a month to read one book (Gone Girl). I liked the book, too, I just got too overwhelmed with work and life.

And, like you, I never feel satisfied with my reviews. Sometimes I have a lot to say when I'm actually reading the book, but once I'm done and ready to sit down and review it, it feels like homework. I think I'm just going to start writing my reviews as I read, since everything will be fresh in my mind, and I'll be able to vent about my feelings as I feel them, not after.

I also need a blogging schedule. I do a lot of spur-of-the moment posts, like you, but sometimes I feel that I need more substantial content than just memes, reviews, & blog tours. This is where planning would really help. I'm sorta in the process of re-organizing my life, so hopefully I can tackle this issue as well.

    Great list!

    1. I hope you do well in organizing your schedule! *Fighting~!* I am kinda bad with those stuff per se. I just son't have a organize bone in me. HA. I think all bloggers think the same way with their reviews. But in the end, expressing is really what matters! :D

  6. I love your list. Ever one of your confessions I was there with you. Even the John Green thing. Don't get me wrong, I loved The Fault in Our Stars, but I get why you don't like his books. I read Paper Towns and I wasn't in love, it was a nice read, but it was a bit much. Some of his other books I only managed to get a couple of chapters in and gave up because there was no hook. I actually understand.

And your review thing, I am there. I have no concept of structuring a review. I just type and see what happens, and then I can't be bothered to create a coherent post with logical structuring because I feel it's an achievement that I even wrote a review in the first place so I just post it.

    1. TRUE THAT! Reviews make me anxious sometimes, I feel like I am not doing my best. :D John Green is a brilliant writer, maybe I just don't like his books and there were times he acted like dense and pedantic over the internet, so that's a plus to my perpetual dislike. OMG I AM SO BAD IM SORRY

  7. I'm never fully satisfied with my design, either. I absolutely LOVE yours though. It's so simple and understated but beautiful all the same :)

    Great confessions!

  8. I love your gifs, they made me smile :) And your list is fantastic! I do NOT like Alpha Males either. Blech. And with reviews, it is either super quick, or like, 4 months later and I have forgotten the book! Oh, and for what it's worth, I love your design! But I totally get the never being content thing! I always want to "make it better".

    1. Thank you! Gifs are precious in every post! :D IKR. Alpha males are scary especially when they act like a jerk :( That's my thing too, I want to make my site looks better... to the point I always tweak it lol

  9. Why do book bloggers find the best gifs? I'm really loving the TTT posts this week. They're making me smile a lot. Yours is no exception. Thank goodness. I needed some good posts. Oh...and that "bad in commenting" thing? Ya...you're looking at it. That's all me. Elle @ Erratic Project Junkie

    1. Thankyou! The gifs are my fave part at any of my posts! HAHA. We are all somehow a little bad commenting one way or another! :D

  10. Oh I am also totally slow when it comes to reading and writing!! I wish I were fast like some people... it's definitely an insecurity of mine so you're not alone. And boo to alpha males!!

  11. I've only been interested in The fault in our stars. All the other John Green books doesn't speak to me for some reason. Is there any blogger out there with a normal TBR pile? Don't think so! Haha. Alpha males/douche bag love-interest/'boys with haunted past' all those types can just die for me :') don't care about it.

  12. I don't schedule my posts either. I just like going with the flow and if that means I don't have posts up for like two weeks because I don't want to write anything and I don't have a bank of pre-written posts, then so be it! Blogging is something I do for fun so the last thing I would want is to start treating it like a job or a duty.

And while I don't hate John Green's books, I don't like them that much either. I did read and like TFIOS and Will Grayson Will Grayson was good but then Katherines and Paper Towns was just ehh. Not my cup of tea. But I do still love all his vlogbrothers videos and all the cool stuff he does! He gets criticized in the media a lot though it's true some of the things he says are a bit condescending and narrow minded but I think he seems like a pretty cool person!

And um, your blog design is fantastic! I wish my blog looked like yours, it's honestly so pretty! But I get the whole never being satisfied. If I weren't so scared of my code which is such a mess right now, I would probably tweak it a bit because I've had mine for AGES.
