Abby Joy B.

It's no secret to anyone that I am pertaining to Marie Lu. You already see that coming right? And the pun up there. Anyway, I may be typing this coherently but inside I'm still shaking with a lot of IS THIS REAL LIFE questions swirling. I mean, come on, your favorite in front of you signing your book, listening to your blabber, saying thank yous and smiling so sweetly IT IS TOO UNREAL, but it is real and I am feeling the hangover.

I've been in love with her debut series ever since I finished Legend. Then Prodigy (which is my absolute favorite of the 3). And then  down to the SOUL-SEARING last book which is Champion. I love all of these. But wait, there's more! We have The Young Elites which racked my brain and stomped over my heart (IT IS JUST THE FIRST BOOK! What more to happen on the next 2!!! I'm scared and ecstatic!) So you see, there are so many greatness of Marie Lu that makes her my ultimate favorite author (but Riordan, Ee, Clare, West, Wolf coming real close). And above everything, she created Daniel AltanWing (ULTIMATEST-NO-SUCH-WORD FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER!!!!!!!!!) I may have a lot like Percy, Penryn, Jem, June, Enzo, Nico, Caymen, Isis and a lot more but he really stand out.

So enough about my unwavering love for Lu ans her books, let's go to the actual book signing. It happened last Nov 23, 2014, Sunday. I didn't get to take a lot of decent pics since the venue was packed as in 700+ readers attending? Yeah, not getting any clear pic. I went to the event late about 12 nn and my number was 696! Damn. I don't know why I was laughing when I received my number, but yeah.. :D So around 2:30 pm Marie Lu arrived and almost everyone rushed in front to get a good look. There was no stopping everyone. The energy was so palpable and it really energized me. Let's get a good run down about the interview aka here are some facts. Note: some are non-verbatim. I recorded the whole interview (just sounds since I couldn't a good angle without an ipad/tablet blocking my view haha).

  • It was easier to write Day's POV than June. Marie Lu said she is the exact opposite of June who's a left-brainy.
  • She had a hard time writing the love scenes than the fight scenes. She isn't romantic, she said. It took her a month to write a particular scene in Champion (wink wink wink wink).
  • She intended to make Day a real criminal, like very notorious and a murderer. But Day's character evolved and then we have the new-born (walker in the light) Day.
  • Day has been on Marie Lu's mind since highschool that's why she felt so natural writing him.
  • Legend was supposed to have 2 boys as main characters. June being also a boy since Legend was based from Les Misérables. Her husband told her that making the other character a girl will make it more interesting.
  • Kaede is a very memorable character for Marie Lu because she wrote Kaede's character with the image of herself. Kaede is a pilot which Marie dreamed of becoming when she was young, but her mother told her that she won't be good at it. "That's great, achieve your dream, but not that" (we all laughed)
  • Marie Lu is not closing her doors for a Legend spin-off. It might be about Anden or Tess.
  • The Legend movie is in the process already. Screenplay is done (Marie didn't participate much since she has little idea of it), now they're finding a director and the casts (OMG!!!!!!!!!!)
  • Marie Lu is a very visual person. She worked in Disney as an visual artist. She can't write a story without drawing her characters first (which btw is super duper cool!)
  • Marie Lu's husband is a Filipino that's why she has a soft spot for the Philippines. (She absolutely love mangoes!)
  • Three of her novels got rejected (unpublished) before Legend.
  • She writes on and off. There were months that she would write everyday, and there were months that she won't at all.

Picture with Marie Lu!!!! (smiling from ear to ear).

The signed books. See that 'To Abby!' *insert wheezingnoise.mp3*
Also posted on my instagram.

They only allowed one book to be personalized with a written name. I chose Prodigy since it is my fave book from the series. Champion is missing since I bought it from a different bookstore, so NBS didn't consider it (kinda bummer but. . ) I seriously stared at my books for minutes. It's just overwhelming. Favorite. Author. Signed. My. Books. In front of me!!!!

My only qualm on this event is that we were rushed. There was no time to even talked to Marie Lu for a minute. It was just seconds. *cries* In that short moment I told her that I always talk about her books on my accounts. She just kept smiling then said, 'Oh, thank you!'

The 8 hour wait plus the numbed butt from sitting too long on the floor was worth it! And oh, while I was waiting I get to buy Proxy by Alex London so I could read while waiting. It was totally spur of the moment kind of impulse buying haha, I also saw Aimee over Deadly Darlings TWICE! But I wan't able to greet her because the first time I was shy. When I saw her on the queue for the actual signing, I was upstairs and was talking to someone. Then when I tried to look for her on the line I kind of lost her already. I think she was done. See how fast the signing for each person????? It was jarring but again, there were a lot of people so no time to chitty-chat blah blah. I wish they just adjusted the time since they know how popular Marie Lu is.

I broke my hiatus with this recap post. I just couldn't wait to share you guys this amazing experience.

Thank you National Book Store for bringing Marie Lu here! I hope this wouldn't be the last time you'll have her in the Philippines.

So. Freaking. Happy.

How are you guys? I hope you're all having a good day! >u<

Synopsis:
Join the Vampire Academy and Experience Augmented Reality. Click here and put your face on the cover of a best seller book. Are you tempted? Watch "Vampire Academy" come to life with your likeness! Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose...

It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians--including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if handto- hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks.... This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...
THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM is the right synopsis for this book.

I am basically torn. Really, this book was a good sequel, but it was too plain and.....ordinary? I just think that the first book had more badass-ness than this book had. Despite the banters and wit, I was still craving for some nail-biting scenes that will probably put me on the edge of my seat. Feel me, guys? DO YOU FEEL ME?????
"[...] it's not like I'll magically become an adult on my eighteenth birthday."
Why did I even start with my quibbles. I don't know. So let's make up for that and start a positive one: This was highly entertaining.  As usual, Rose Hathaway steals the spotlight away from everyone. She's really cool and kickass...but also feminine in sorts. I love how she's reckless sometimes, and always find a way to be adorable! Her character is so realistic since VA and I always find myself smiling at her comebacks and even on her rash actions. On the other hand, we still have the others: Lissa & Christian's relationship still going strong. Mason who was too ridiculously in love but adorbs. Dimitri who still can't snag a place in my heart (I AM SORRY GUYS). Then we have Adrian who seemed so cocky and confident....and weird. He's a playful bastard, you know the usual enigmatic guy that can still get under the skin of readers (or is it just me). I love the new twist of his character. I also liked Tasha and her insights. I wholeheartedly agree to her preposition. It was basically what I wanted to propose since VA but heck I am just a reader.

I noted that the relationship of Rose and Janine (her mother) was a little gripping. I grew up with a mom who's always been there and putting us first ahead of anything so it pained me to read that Rose and her mother have a very detached, distant relationship. I just hope that it'll be fix soon because poor mother-child relationship really makes me edgy.

Last rant: Dear Authors, KILLING THE THIRD WHEEL IS NEVER THE ANSWER. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
(an angry Gollum to make my pointXD shit I just realized how ghastly and scary this gif is)

On the Fence

Add to Goodreads

Summary:
She's a tomboy. He's the boy next door…

Charlie Reynolds can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world. To cope with the stress of her new reality, Charlie takes to spending nights chatting with her neighbor Braden through the fence between their yards. As she grows to depend on their nightly Fence Chats, she realizes she's got a bigger problem than speeding tickets-she's falling for Braden. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

Fun, original, and endearing, On the Fence is a romantic comedy about finding yourself and finding love where you least expect.
IS THERE A BOOK OF KASIE WEST I WON'T LOVE?
According to an extensive research, I'll read anything that Kasie West writes.

I think the best thing about this book was that the family relationship was highlighted than the romance. Sure, Charlie and Braden's struggle to be out of the #friendzoned terms was the main dilemma, but the family dynamics didn't go unnoticed. Charlie was a very relateable character in my terms. She was feisty (in a fun way), tough, kickass, athletic, but totally adorable. She can totally beat you up in a football match. But at can not say that her character is perfect enough, there were times she was insensitive. Her relationship with her brothers was precious to the nth power. It had me wishing to have older brothers (I vigorously wished that when I was young every night). Jerome, Nathan and Gage were too cool.... and nasty sometimes. Their relationship were light and fun, there was no dull moment whenever they are on the scene. It was thrilling to read such boy characters with so much wit and sassiness. Also, the father-daughter relationship stood out in the book. I found the scene where Charlie discovered his father's book on how to raise girl teenagers super sweet and endearing.

I love Braden. A total swoon inducing and book boyfriend material. Kasie really likes his heroine to be the "gentleman" ever since Pivot Point. That's why I really like her novels because the heroes easily snagged their way into my heart and build a cozy place in there. Braden is no exception, he's sweet, gentle, sometimes bashful (and this made me love him more) and most of all he understands Charlie in and out.

BRADEN AND CHARLIE'S RELATIONSHIP aka THE ROMANCE GOT ME LIKE
"No. I don't want this to be in our alternate reality. I want this to be in our real one." He met my lips with his. [...] "But we can do this again at the fence if you want."
The plot was predictable. It has every substance you're looking for a contemporary romance, but I didn't care anymore and it wasn't a hindrance to like the book. Actually, I read contemporary novels in a way that I neglect if the story is unique (but ofcourse it's a plus) or not, I am just rooting for the emotional transfer and how the book will bring ~all the feels~ and this book got me squealing and wailing (because of some angst).

All in all, if you want a book with brilliant family dynamics, bestfriend/childhood romance, swoon-worthy boy characters, tough&adorable heroine, cute love story, then this book is worth a read.

Isn't this book just maddening? But then again,

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN LOST?

I feel like I am compelled to write something deeper than the usual. I don't know, but this book made me realize a lot of things in life. It resonated me. It struck me with a chord. My mind is still reeling as well as my emotions. This is like a darker version of Alice in Wonderland & Peter Pan with ample of physiological and emotional contort. The world is very unusual, it needs a good writing to depicts the intention of The Lost. My interpretation might differ from others. That's the beauty of books, you can never know what they really are all about. You can only see it the way you are.
"All the world is made of faith, trust, and pixie dust."
This is a story about Lauren's unexpected detour. She only meant to drive and run away for a while from the possible mishap or bad news to come in her life: Her mom dying of Cancer. But she found herself in a dust storm and ended up in the town called Lost. Where all the Lost are Found.

HARDY HAR HAR THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST BOOK I'VE READ THIS YEAR. SO AMAZING. AMAZEBALLS/ HELLUVA AWESOME. AND ALL SORTS OF WORDS RELATED TO BRILLIANT.

This book is very unique, odd, eccentric yet too enticing and thought-provoking. It tackles about everyone's crisis in life. Being lost. The main character, Lauren, is a very realistic character. She's no fictional, we see the kind of her in our everyday lives. Maybe I even see myself in her. She's smart with a sense of dry humor. She's not the kind of character that everyone will like, but then again she is very realistic and by means of being realistic she can be annoying and insufferable sometimes (i mean we all are in many ways). But in the end, I eventually admired and loved her. She's a strong grown-up woman, she wears her big panties and knows how to be independent. Until she got lost in Lost.......and met a bunch of crazy lost people, a kid with a knife and teddy bear, a mysterious, hauntingly handsome Peter.
“You don’t seem to be an interesting person,” he says. “Lost your way emotionally, psychologically, and physically. Cut-and-dried, really. There must be more to you.”
Three of the most striking characters (ever in my reading history) would be Lauren, Claire and Peter (as in hot and older version of Peter Pan). Their bonding was precious and memorable. It was a spur of the moment kind of friendship that grew stronger and stronger as they struggled to survive. I ached for them. They were a team, not individuals who will betray you any time of the day. Claire is a very endearing character. She's just a kid but she acts like an adult. She's very resourceful and talented, so full of life.

Peter might appear brusque and an asshole potential at first impression, but that's just the impression. He's playful and full of riddles I sometimes can't comprehend. Let's just say, he knows stuff and he experienced stuff. He's the Finder after all. He helped Luaren through and through her adventure in Lost. But he's also lost and that makes him very frail at heart and soul. I loved loved loved Peter. After I finished reading this I am sure he's now included ON my book boyfriend list. He made it to the 5th place! (I only have like 4 book boyfriends before). I am a very picky reader, sometimes I swoon over heroes but never considered them to be a book boyfriend, BUT PETER OH PETER!!!!! He was very different from the usual. I can't understand him, he was so mysterious and I like heroes to be that way. You know they do more than they talk and that was all makes him gushy gush gush kind of character.
DEFINITELY ME
The romance was slow burning with lots lots lots of attraction and sexual tension. It was palpable, I almost got burned because of Lauren and Peter's undeniable bizarre chemistry. I found myself restless on my reading position because of what happened to their relationship. I GRUNTED, SCREAMED AND CLENCHED MY FIST SO HARD. It was so unfair. So so unfair. Everytime they have an intimate moment it will be cut short! Seriously, why are you doing this to me?
"If they come back they're yours. If they don't they never were."

"If you love someone, set them free." That's the start of that quote. I don't meet Peter's eyes.
But what afflicted the most on me was the mother-daughter relationship in this book. OKAY I AM NOT GOING TO CRY NOT. NOT. NOT. I love my mom so darn much, and this book just made me realize that one day, He (whoever is above) will take her from me without a warning sign (or maybe just a three month warning sign). I can't imagine that. I've always dreamed of a life with my mother in the picture that's why I sobbed like a baby when I got to read the last pages of the book. And throughout Lauren's stay in Lost, she never ever ever forget about her mother. As in never. She was just shaken at the fact that she might be dying soon that's why she ran away for awhile, but she never intended to leave her mother alone for a long long time. The relationship and bonding was gold, it made me really cave for it. I was very vulnerable in this aspect of the book. So thumbs up, this book has very wonderful perspective about mother-daughter relationship.

All in all, this book was sheer brilliant. I loved that it was written in a way that fuzzed my brain but later did I understand why. The writing matched the overall tone of the book. Sometimes the writing can be very detailed that it feels like it's meant for a five year old to comprehend, but don't fret because beneath the writing is an adventure that is worth reading. So much mystery, romance, family bond, inner conflict, life lessons and all. You just don't get a simple book, you get so much more than you expected.

And to anyone who has read the book, can I ask you a question........... highlight the text...
Is the Missing Man Lauren's father? Because Lauren has the same ability as him and he went to her Mom's funeral.. So I am guessing there's something deeper to this. What you think?

Lovely Vicious
Author: Sara Wolf
Published Date: Nov 5, 2013
Add to Goodreads / Amazon

Synopsis:
Fire meets ice. Love meets hate.

Seventeen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, nine weeks, and five days, and after what happened last time, she intends to keep it that way. Since then she’s lost eighty-five pounds, gotten four streaks of purple in her hair, and moved to the Buttcrack-of-Nowhere Ohio to help her mom escape a bad relationship.

All the girls in her new school want one thing – Jack Hunter, the Ice Prince of East Summit High. Hot as an Armani ad, smart enough to get into Yale, and colder than the Arctic, Jack Hunter’s never gone out with anyone. Sure, people have seen him downtown with beautiful women, but he’s never given high school girls the time of day. Until Isis punches him in the face.

Jack’s met his match. Suddenly everything is a game.
The goal: Make the other beg for mercy.
The game board: East Summit High.
The reward: Something neither of them expected.
This is the kind of story that will play with your emotions ruthlessly, make your stomach and cheeks hurt because of the laughs and will probably throw you into a frenzy of feels. A brilliant novel that tackles about the struggle of different characters but most of the time it is about Isis Blake, the main character also the voice of the book.

Let me start by saying: GO READ THIS NOW. There I said it, now, let's go to the actual thing. Reading the synopsis made me iffy for it sounds to cliche and cheesy. Really, Ice Prince? But I was shocked when I saw all the shining 4 & 5 stars review in goodreads (top reviews btw) and thought why not give a try?

I AM SO GLAD I DID. Read it in one sitting and absolutely regretted nothing. There's so many things to like about this book. First we have a very noteworthy, dimensional, sharp-witted, FUNNY protagonist who has an exceptional talent in comical blabbering. Even her one liners can make me laugh easily. But her life isn't perfect, despite the lost of weight and a chance to be away from this nameless guy who hurt her more that she could ever bare, she still feel insecure and scared and broken from her past experience. BUT SHE'S STRONG. So fucking strong, I almost cried when I was reading some scenes that I thought she'll crumble into a puddle of mess. On the other hand she talks too much and thinks too much aka blabbers too much. Sometimes I want to duck tape her mouth or thoughts because those were overwhelming, but as the story progressed I learned to go along with it - not minding it at all! She simply skyrocketed her way to my favorite YA heroine list. And this specific line here needs to be highlighted because that speaks it all.
“She was probably a trusting, naïve girl before him, like a daisy. And then he came, and pulled her petals off one by one, forcing her to surround herself with thorns to survive. But he missed one petal. And she guards it with a tiger's ferocity.”
Now we meet Jack Hunter, Ice Prince of East Summit High. A total hottie - brooding handsome with lots of women fawning over him - but he's also the epitome of coldness and distant; ass and arrogant; but behind those facades lies a dark past. Really dark!! He's also a total nerd, and a Harvard passer! Beat that! He made me frustrated with his actions, but at the same time made me "Awwwwww" more than "Ughhh". I can't give much info about him for I might spoil some important bits about the story.

THE BANTER! This is also one of the things to look forward to in reading this book. Isis and Jack's battle of wits & insults, physical war and a whole lot crazy revenge they throw at each other totally made me guffaw. A piece of advice: DON'T DRINK OR EAT ANYTHING WHEN YOU'RE READING THEIR SCENES TOGETHER.  It's very evident that they exude a burning chemistry even if it's all hate and war. And what I love about their relationship is they never started off as INSTA-LOVE. It was slow & blossoming. I just want them to be together you know? Ughhh all the unsaid feelings!! All all all the heartaches and poignant little revelations broke my heart into a gazillion pieces.
“How did you find me? If you hacked into the Club’s computer to look up my appointments - "
“Whoa, I think you overestimate me, shitlord. Last time I checked all I did was be in the wrong place at the right time. I saw you and had to - ”
“Stalk me.”
“ - delicately approach you. In a sideways manner. From behind. Without being seen at all. For ten minutes.”
"You could do the fair maidens of the school a favor and inform them you're gay," I say.
"Didn't you read the sign?" He asks coolly without looking up, "No harpies in the library"
"I see everyone's here!" I cheerily bounce into a seat next to him and unlace my shoes. I glance over, as if seeing him for the first time. "Alright, which one of you's been dabbling in demon summoning and hasn't told me about it?"
There's this dark and suspenseful plot in the story. That makes everything exciting and a lot thrilling. Unraveling of secrets and putting together the pieces of a mysterious & haunting puzzle will prevent anyone to bring this book down. And let me just mention how friendship and family ties were greatly manifested by the characters.

Overall, it was really a memorable read for me. Let's just say that if you hate immature dialogues, then you might want to avoid this book, but other than that this book was well-written and enjoyable for such haunting plot.

The Winner's Curse
Author: Marie Rutkoski
Published Date: March 4, 2014
Add to goodreads

Synopsis:
Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.
What a bloody surprise! Yes pun intended. At first I was hesitant reading this since recent overly hyped books tend to disappoint me, but once upon a time someone in twitter tweeted this photo and finally I bit the bait. Thank you, FierceReads! Aye, don't give me a stink eye. I know, I know. Haha.
“Happiness depends on being free, Kestrel's father often said, and freedom depends on being courageous.”
The Winner's Curse is an enticing fantasy book, with solid & distinct world-building, impressive characters, perplex political dispute and delicious slow-burn romance. Beautifully written! The prose is just so whimsical and enthralling. The author was so detailed and vivid in narrating, describing and illustrating the series of events and the internal monologue of the characters. I love love love...love novels that focus on wars!! Being an avid fan of movies like Troy, 300, Helen of Troy, Wrath of the Titans etc and books like Prince Caspian, Percy Jackson series, Legend trilogy, etc, I was so thrilled that as I read, read, read I learned that this book is about colonization and war among empires.
“Cold without, color within. This was how it had been.”
Kestrel is a striking character; not on the physical means, but she is exceptional with her logical thinking, canny strategies and keen senses. She's not a Valorian warrior, she's a strategist, but that doesn't hinder her physical capability to fight. She's different from her own kind of high power. She's kind-hearten, responsible, strong-willed, but just like any other human, she has her own weaknesses. Arin on the other hand is a jaundiced character all through out the book. He is mysterious & sharp-witted, a Herran who seeks revenge on the Valorians for conquering their land and killing his people. At first, his character was closed book, it's hard to really like him when he keep everything so minimal; the way he talks; and even his slightest introspection. But I found myself loving him at the end. Guess why? He reminds me of Day of Legend. He both posses physical and strategic advantage. Not to mention how genuine he is.

The romance was a painful reminder that everything has a price. Although Arin and Kestrel started as mistress-slave relationship, underneath those stares and gazes is the burning attraction and unsaid feelings. I ache for them. They've been through a lot of betrayal and heartbreak that it's so hard to keep stomaching each agonizing moment where they treat each other as enemies. BUT WE GOT TO HAVE A COUPLE OF "RIGHT-IN-THE-FEELS" MOMENT and I am very much grateful for that!!!
He lifted her up onto the table so that her face was level with his, and as they kissed it seemed that words were hiding in the air around them, that they were invisible creatures that feathered against her and Arin, then nudged, and buzzed, and tugged.
Speak, they said.
Speak, the kiss answered.
The explanation of "The Winner's Curse" totally swept me off my feet - I AM SOLD! It's a win-lose scenario. HA. I loved how it was incorporated on the ROMANCE (yes the author did), and on the aspect of keeping claim of power, and imperium. I also loved how the author gave attention to the society, music, Bite and Sting (where can I play this?!) and friendship.

All in all, The Winner's Curse is a well-written fantasy book that will surely make the readers hold their breathe, hold onto their chairs, their beds. Prepare to be angry, sad, ache, touched, happy, anxious, eager all at the same freaking time!!!! I really enjoyed this although I have one problem: I was so mad at the ending!!1 CLIFFHANGER? *winks* *fail to wink ends up looking like someone having a stroke*
“You don't, Kestrel, even though the god of lies loves you. ”
Recommendations: To anyone who loves YA fantasy, a painful romance (HAHA), blood & gore, contemptible antagonists, well-plotted war! And to everyone reading this. (you see that coming, right?)

When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

This book is surreal engrossing and compelling. It has the beauty of keeping the readers on track of the thrilling and mind-racking adventure and discovery of the characters.

Thought: Does Kasie West ever go wrong? I'm escalated that my first read for 2017 was a squee-filled one. This was utterly adorable. The main character, Lily, is a very witty person. It wasn't hard to love her and her family.
