Author: Avery Williams
Publsihed Date: 2012
Genre: YA, fantasy, paranormal
Rating: ★★★★

Synopsis:
After spending six hundred years on Earth, Seraphina Ames has seen it all. Eternal life provides her with the world's riches but at a very high price: innocent lives. Centuries ago, her boyfriend, Cyrus, discovered a method of alchemy that allows them to take the bodies of other humans from jumping from one vessel to the next, ending the human's life in the process. No longer able to bear the guilt of what she's done, Sera escapes from Cyrus and vows to never kill again.
Then sixteen-year old Kailey Morgan gets into a horrific car accident right in front of her, and Sera accidentally takes over her body while trying to save her. For the first time, Sera finds herself enjoying the life of the person she's inhabiting--and falling in love with the boy who lives next door. But Cyrus will stop at nothing until she's his again, and every moment she stays, she's putting herself and the people she's grown to care about in danger. Will Sera have to give up the one thing that's eluded her for centuries: true love?

A story with a promising plot and a total page turner.

Reincarnation has been on my "not yet explored genre" of literature. And this is the first reincarnation book that I've ever read. (It's a YA, I was so happy!). I enjoyed every page of this book. From the start 'til the holy cliff-hanger ending. In a minimal amount of pages, the pacing has to be very fast-paced and direct to the point. The climax didn't happen in the middle, it happened right from the start. That's the magic of the book. Every page feels like the climax.

Characters. Sera has a very good name. LOL. Okay, she's smart, but naive. She trusted Cyrus, followed him for 600 hundred years, but after she realized how suffocating everything became, she finally told herself it's time to let go.. She's stronger than I thought, she had been through a lot - almost dying, but she chose to live the life as Kaiyle. I can't say that I love her, but I like how she makes her choices. Noah is a distant character for me. I can't really feel the *tingling* vibes around him. He's a gentleman, but I rarely appreciate his presence. Maybe because he's kinda aloof and quiet. Cyrus is like the creepy obsessed boyfriend. He chases after Sera- wherever she'll go. Secondary characters, are okay and average. As I said, the limited pages made it hard for me to really get to know the depths of each character.

Romance is mediocre. Sera and Noah have the chemistry, but at not the level of true love. Writing style is the best thing! I can totally swoon over the writing style. It's figurative, but at the same time just the right writing style for an introspective character like Sera can narrate her story and perspective. The battle of Science and Magic brings the fireworks around. It makes everything intriguing and enticing.
“People are always looking for magic, when the natural world holds true miracles”
Why only 4 stars then? I can truly say that the limited pages left me unsatisfied with the turn of events, and I am helplessly trying to like the characters.

Ending. Oh-oh! The deadly cliff-hanger is juuuuuuuuuust so frustrating. Now, I am just so excited to read the next book!

  1. Cliff-hanger endings ALWAYS get me! I hate/love them. I haven't heard of this one yet, so I'll have to look it up. The only other reincarnation/paranormal I've read was Grasping At Eternity, which was good, but not my cup of tea. I'd like to try another though, and this looks good!
