Published Date: November 29, 2011
Genre: YA, dystopia, sci-fi
Rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis:
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.
Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything's possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.”  -Day
I finished this last week I think? I always forgot to update fak it's even a miracle I can finish a book in a week. Damn busy sched :-@

Anyways! When Champion was released I SWEAR my goodreads feed had been Champion-ized LOL I've been rooting to read this and finally decided to buy a copy AND OMG No regreeeets!

First 15% of the book left me a little unsatisfied and meh, but every page gets better and better! What I really really love about this novel is its cryptic and intense plot. This book is a combination of blindsiding secrets, undercover, turncoat and fraud making everything more thrilling and exciting.

This is the kind of dystopia book that never failed to emphasize the creation of an illimitable and imaginative world. The idea of America having two sides (Republican and Colonies + Patriots) definitely got my interest. It is so rare that books can execute a good plot involving politics, romance from opposite worlds and action-packed scenes. A breathe of fresh air as they say. The world building is insanely good.

The writing style is full of imagery. Marie writes like she's actually using a visual presentation to feed the readers the scenarios and the setting of the story. Also, Legend was well-narrated coming from both June & Day's alternating POV.
“What a joke! Poor little rich girl's fallen in love with the Republic's most famous criminal.”
June and Day are very lovely characters with exceptional strength, intelligence, vigor, solidity and love for their family. I'm in awe on how indomitable their spirits are in time of vulnerability. They are commendably strong. Their relationship isn't forced, it's feverishly gripping, leaving me craving for more. From their opposite prepositions in life, lies and secrets confined them as one. I NEED MORE OF JUNE AND DAY PLEAAAAAAAASE.

Another thing very evident in this book is the siblings-love. Parts and parts of this book tackled and explored the extent of sibling-love. From Metias and June to John-Day-Eden, all exhibit unwavering love to each other. Sacrifices have been made in order to give way for the other's survival. It's just unfair, but IT HAS TO BE DONE.

Antagonists are just oh-so depressing as ever. I want to strangle them, but at the same time hug them for being haughty and rotten. Thomas is so UGHHHHH while Tess is AWWWWW. LOVE SQUARE? Uh-oh.

Overall, I recommend this to dystopian junkies and just to who ever wants to read a fast-paced, action-packed and creative novel. Book 2: Prodigy.

  1. You're very lucky you got to read this when all the books are out! I don't mean to be a spoiler, and I haven't read Champion yet but from what I've heard, there's nothing you need to worry about having a love triangle or a love square. ;)

  2. I haven't got around to reading Prodigy yet. >_< I feel so bad! Particularly when Champion is out (nearly out?). I did enjoy Legend, though I'm with you, that the beginning was a bit "meh". I didn't like June, so much, but Day was just awesome. He was so sweet. And the ending...ohgosh! I had a FEELING, but I was hoping I wouldn't be right! XD

Great review! And I also wanted to say, I looove your blog design. It's really nice and fresh. Just fabulous. :)
