Abby Joy B.

I had a reading slump for a whole 2 weeks! That's hella scary. First of all, it was because of the concert I attended to last Oct. 24, 2013. A week before that concert I was a bit panicky and jumpy. I was so freaking excited that I set aside my current reads. Sorry, Eleanor & Park and Unchained. I tried so hard to continue reading either of the two, but my mind kept on rejecting the idea so I really had to put them back on my shelf. After the concert was over, my mind wasn't really into focus. If you are interested to know what happened hahahahaha I'll link my personal blogpost about it. Moving on, after a week I finally decided to pickup what I've left and that means Eleanor & Park. I've finished it and yeah, it was an ok book to me. I will write a review for that soon. But I rated it 3 stars in good reads.

Another thing is that lips HAHAHAHAHA I decided to use it as 'stars' for my blog. I won't replace my previous reviews with that because shisuz it will kill time. I created them that's why they are extra special \o/

Reviews Reviews Reviews. Ummmm.. I bummed out with book reviews. I planned to write a review for the following, but I never had the chance to ///facepalm

I have no plan to write a review for Never Fade anymore since word aren't enough how much I loved that book. Wild Cards is number 2 in my priority list and E & P is ummm still unsure.

First November READ!

You see that hottie guy with an amazing body and a death glare. Yup. That's Daemon Black, a swoon-worthy alien with a lot of wittiness and cockiness. I finished Origin JUST. NOW. Before I started writing this. It was awesome!!! Well anyway this is on the priority list!

So there you have it. My ramblings and a lot of weird talk. So excited to touch this blog again. (AND POST WEEKLY MEMES) ugh I totally forgot about that ==

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
So today's topic is: top ten character names I LOVE or top ten most unusual character names!

First of all it's already Wednesday here but a week won't be complete without this meme on my blog. Yay.

From PJO and HoO series. There's something artistic and cryptic about his name although Nico is common already, his last name is just mesmerizing.

From Throne of Glass series. I love love love his name. It's unique and just too comfy to read. KEY-OL or KA-OL. Omg. I am bad with names that I love. Also he is my fave character in the series so do you see how biased I am. Nah. Really, his name is so unique and pretty =n=

From Pivot Point. Just the way his name rolls on my tongue is so sexy. LOL. I really love his name (and him of course)

From The Infenal Devices. MY FAVE NAME :( OMG. From James to Jem. Shisuz. The magic transformation. His lastname is so captivating. I can't help but to swoon. OVER HIS LAST NAME. I need a life.

From Hush Hush series. JUST HIS NAME IS UNF. What more his body, Nah, kidding. Sort of. Well, Patch is a unique name and I admit one of the reason why Iwas drawn to the first book was because of his name. Tehee.

From Bloodlines Series. OMG. Her name is just so pretty. I haven't read the series but her name beckons me to!!

From Mara Dyer Series. Mara is not much of a common name. Dyer is sure creeper especially it sounded DIE-er. Logic, man! Her name is simply mysterious but enthralling!

From Divergent Trilogy. From Beatrice to Tris. Another wonderful transition again!!! Simple yet fierce and bold. TRIS.

From AngelFall. HOLY COW. Her name is just soooooo cool and unique. Haven't heard anyone Penryn except this fictional character. Penryn is sort of feisty or gatsby and it just fits her personality. And PS, I love her!

From HoO series. Seriously speaking, I don't like her. Not even a tad bit, but she's fine. I like her name, it's feminist and fab! Piper! Piper!

So what's your TTT? Comment it below so I can check it out! x

Tada! I am done with the read-a-thon I joined in last Oct 15, 2013. If you want to know what it is all about, this might help you. That was my first post regarding this activity and I admit I only read one book from that "supposed to be" list. It happened that Duff and Sweet Evil kinda irked me so I switched to other books, and oh boy! A quick summary of my reads from Oct 15-20, 2013.

I posted reviews for the three books.
The Darkest Minds
Breaking Nova
Bully
Wild Cards (soon to come)

The Read-A-Thon was a huge success for my part. I only intended to read 2 books, but surprisingly I read 4 books. I adored The Darkest Minds while I became emotional over Breakign Nova and Bully. I am having second thoughts about Wild Cards because it was a pull-push relationship which sort of didn't work for me for a little. (but I enjoyed the book).

Thank you myselfconfession for the awesome read-a-thon!
So how about your wrap-up? :D

Super Six Sunday is an original bookish meme created from Bewitched Bookworms
Today's theme is: Super 6 favorite book couples

This is my first time to post for this meme and I am so thrilled for this book meme. Anyway, This is hard. How to choose only 6. Wait let me get my thoughts together....3....2....1 *heavy breathing* Okay, decisions made! So these are just fancasts (aka hot boys)

1. Jem Carstairs and Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices: I really love them from Clockwork Angel down Clockwork Princess. They are my fave book couple ever. I love the unwavering love between them through the years. And yes, the ending of CP2 was blissful that I almost puke rainbows.
2. Trevor and Addie from Pivot Point: They are just too adorable. I kept craving for more of their moments! Seriously, if I can choose to have a relationship with *someone*, I would like ou relationship to be like theirs. They are just too comfy with each other.
3. Liam Stewart and Ruby Lydan from The Darkest Minds: Oh boy. I love them so much. I was obsessing over this couple especially Liam Stewart. Btw, Alexandra Bracken, the author, also chose Lucas Till as fancast for Liam Stewart. I can't think of any other Liam (except for what I am imaginig) fancast so I settle for Lucas.
4. Jared and Tate from Bully: The couple that will always frustrate me, but also made my stomach tingle to no end. Their relationship was so intense, feverish, breathe-taking. I love love love them both.
5. Percy and Annabeth from The PJO and HoO series: Umm, what can I say? They are too adorbs! Seaweed brain + Smarty girl = FLUFF. I love how their relationship developed. It wasn't rushed and insta-love.
6.  Raffe and Penryn from Angelfall: Forbidden love. Their relationship is just so asdfghjklasdfh; do you understand me? Yes. Yes. Especially the ending of Angelfall. I'm crying.

Let's not forget:

LUKE CASTELLAN AND ABBY (yes my very own otp) (don't argue)

Breaking Nova
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Published Date: 2013
Genre: NA, contemporary, romance, dark
Rating: ★★★★

Synopsis:
Nova Reed used to have dreams-of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she's getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just about as broken as she feels inside.

Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn't want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he's done, what he's lost. He's sworn to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he's too damaged to get close to her, yet she's the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?

Review:
(ALL THE PICTURES AREN'T MINE. CREDITS TO THE OWNERS)

Breaking Nova is a very emotional read for me. From page 1 'til the last it never failed to bring a canon of emotions from all the characters. I was iffy with the whole "i am so depressed so I need drugs to forget" theme for this novel, but later then I gave in.

The characters were flawed and painfully broken. Nova lost Landon, her boyfriend aka the love of her life, because of a suicide. On the other hand, Quinton lost Lexie, her girlfriend aka the girl she wanted to marry, through an accident in which Quinton was the one driving. They were both trapped in the past and they can't find the way back to the present and look forward for the future. Then one day they met and they felt that a piece of them came back to its senses. It didn't end there because they kept questioning their capability to love again and to be whole again. So many unfortunate events that lead their life into vain and so much pain. I can literally feel their despair, desolation and emptiness through Jessica's writing style.

They developed a relationship with a lot of "what ifs". Their relationship was as complicated as the turmoil of emotions going through them. They find peace, but there's always a loophole for chaos and perplexity. The tension between them is flaring with raw emotions that I felt like gasping for air. They were both confused and out of love.

It is not the romantic aspect that made a big deal out of this. It is how Nova fought the numbness and emptiness to start again with a whole positive and hopeful view in life. The scene where she watched the video of Landon, that broke me into pieces. I didn't exactly cry but i felt my whole heart crying inside my ribcage. In the end, she learned to forgive and admitted:
“I'm learning that it's okay. It's okay to hurt. It's okay to cry. It's okay to admit we need help. It's okay to let go.”

Quinton still has a long way for this. He badly needs help as he drowns himself to drugs. Guilt and shame still lingers on his veins and he can't help but try everything to be dead inside and maybe outside. It is pitiful, but at the same time sympathetic The ending gave a glimpse onto how will the second book will start and continue the broken story.

At some point, I can totally relate to whatever they are feeling minus the feeling of suicidal and all.

The end was a cliff-hanger but it was written in a way the readers will understand their story is not just a stand alone book.... Indeed this book was a rollercoaster ride of emotions that tackled about how it felt to be flawed, empty, hopeless, numb, broken and how someone can change us and how we can change ourself. Life is wonderful. Don't take it for granted. Kudos Jessica Sorensen!

Just a quick drop by! Hello! I've been abandoning this for a while. It had been a tough 1st week of second term for me and as the term begins, hws and activities started rushing almost taking me off with it. Actually, I found it extremely blissful when I get to read books in between my travelling time to school and back home. I've got to read 3 books for Wonderfully Wicked Read-A-Thon and my reviews will come maybe tomorrow :) I've reread one of my favorite books and that is Bully by Penelope Douglas. Let's have a quick recap of my agenda for tomorrow 'til next week.

Reviews to come:

Breaking Nova by Jessica Sorensen
Yeah, this wasn't on my TBR for WW R-A-T but I felt it beckoning me to read and so I did! I gave it a 4 stars in goodreads and my review will be posted tomorrow ;) So broken, but freaking good book!

Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken
\AMAZING! I don't know if I can write a coherent review for this but I am trying ;)

Bully by Penelope Douglas
I've already wrote a review for this a long time ago. Check it out if you want ;) Well, I don't know why but I sort of missed reading this so I reread it again two days ago. It is still so freakingly good even the second time around!

Whoops! I am reading Eleanor and Park as of the moment and I am opting to write a review :) I missed blogging and stalking blogs (creeper). I hope before the WW Read-A-Thon ends, I already finished this one so I can declare a total of 4 books and 1 reread in my goal. Yay for me! :)

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Back in 2010, because of  PJO movie I've get to be curious about this series and started devouring it. I loved it so much. Now I am waiting for the last book in the HoO. One of my fave series ever existed!

Fractured Souls by Jesscia Sorensen
I have to read this because I want to read the novella that will be released after this. This is a retelling of a YA series that I loved dearly.

The Darkest Minds
Author: Alexandra Bracken\
Published Date: 2012
Genre: YA, dystopia, sci-fi
Rating: ★★★★.5

Synopsis:When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.
Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.
When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.
When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Review:
The Darkest Minds aka a dark YA sci-fi/dystopia  novel that blew me away. And also the novel which ending broke my heart into a gazillion pieces and left it scattered on the floor. I am still mulling over the ending. I should've seen that coming, but I refused to believe my instincts until it all came at once *BAM* WORLD COLLAPSED.

Children with supernatural powers that have the ability to overrun the government. The government fears them so they dragged them away from their families and locked them up in their so called rehabilitation camps. Instead of helping the children to control their abilities, the rehabilitation camp turtored their minds and dispatched them in the world especially when they appear too dangeorus. The main protagonist, Ruby, suffered 6 years of pure torment in Thurmond, the biggest camp for children like her, that was until The League dragged her out convincing her that it's safer if she joins the so called league. From there, all things brooke loose. She met other kids who were also running away from the PSI and some skip-something. Together, they made their way to find the Slip Kid every child of their own was talking about. But, it wasn't as easy as 1 2 3, they were attacked a lot of times, almost on the verge of hoing back to their rehabilitation hell.

So finally, I am done! It took me a good 3 days to finish this book and I admit that at first I wasn't entirely hooked and engrossed. The first 60-70 pages were agonizingly slow. I almost gave up and put this on hold until I came across the chapter where Ruby met Liam, Zu and Chubs. Hope flared in me as I continued to read and read and read.

The book was hauntingly dark and wrenched with a lot of plot twists. I enjoyed every bit of the adventure slash car journey of the 4 characters namely, Ruby, Liam, Zu & Chubs. Each of them had their own powers and distinguished personalities. I found myself caving in the characters as pages dragged by. Ruby might be a little naive and fragile but her character development was suprisingly commendable. Liam, my darlin', he was like the Big Brother among them, he might looked calm and in control of the situation, but underneath lied vulnebarility and pain. Zu, I pretty much felt all the sympathy for her. She's just a kid, but the cruel world started to shake off her sanity. Chubs, he might be a little grumpy and cynical but at the end he proved to the readers that loyalty and hope are enough to keep going. These characters left me in awe. I admired how strong-willed they were and how they worked as a team. They were each others' strength, that's why one's lost is the lost of the team. They crawled inside my heart and I just loved them to bits especially Liam *swoons*

Storyline. Never in my life that I've read a novel with a similar plot as to this. It was original and creative. The plot was well thought of and well organized. The trail of events might be a little on going forward-going back but it was bearable. It might be a bit slow, but the latter picked up into an intense and action driven sequence. But as I was saying the highlight for me and thr strongest point of the book was the road trip of the 4 characters. It was just exhilirating, refreshing with a mixture of intense blow of cover. The idea of the color clustering was funny and confusing at first, but I came to embrace it. Blue, Red, Orange & Yellow. My only complain is why there's no pink (nah kidding).

Romance. It wasn't the biggest deal of the book. In fact it took 300 something pages for the story to pick up on the gnawing tension between Ruby and Liam. Their relationship was fatal but strong. They are lsot in their own world, as long as they're together no amount of PSI or The League will separate them from each other. I just liked how their relationship was developed. It wasn't rushed nor crammed. Although, it was obvious that Liam had the shots for her, still the book let both characters find their way into each others arms in a heart-fluttering and dreamy way. I totally melted in Liam's words like how come a person like him doesn't exist in our world. But, seriously, yes.
“Did you know...you make me so happy that sometimes I actually forget to breath? I'll be looking at you, and my chest will get so tight...and it's like, the only thought in my head is how much I want to reach over and kiss you.”
Err. The antagonists. They ade everything exciting and miserable. i just all of them to suffer, but i know in time they will. And by that time comes I'll be curled in my blanket rejoicing while chanting "HAPPY EVER AFTER DOES EXIST" I am keeping my faith. I am.

Let's not talk about the ending cause it pretty much messed up my ability to be coherent. I just can't gouge the right words to express how much the ending broke me. But without that ending, I think the next books will just come in HEY-THERE'S-BOOK-2 kind of mood not OMFG-THIS IS FUCKIGN IT IS-GUYS-BOOK-2-WHAT-HAPPENED-TO-LIAM excitement. Overall, the book taught us that there's always a spark of hope in every situation. Giving up may not be the most reasonable thign to do, but fighting for what you stand for til the end although it might cause so much personal dread still matters. Also, this book exhibits the lesson of equality. We may have a lot of skills that make others look untalented, but at the end all of our feet are on the same level ground. There's no need to be greedy. No need to be godawful. Acceptance is always the key. Well done, Ms. Bracken! 4.5 stars to be exact.

WW Read-A-Thon Update
One book done! I am going to read the novella of this so that makes 4 potential books for this Read-A-Thon! Yay, so far so good! :D

Thought: Does Kasie West ever go wrong? I'm escalated that my first read for 2017 was a squee-filled one. This was utterly adorable. The main character, Lily, is a very witty person. It wasn't hard to love her and her family.
