Synopsis:
Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something's got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past.

Nastasya finally begins to deal with life, and even feels safe--until the night she learns that someone wants her dead.

Cate Tiernan, author of the popular Sweep series, returns with an engaging story of a timeless struggle and inescapable romance, the first book in a stunning new fantasy trilogy.

The point of this life is not to be good all the time. It's to be as good as you can. No one is perfect. No one does it right all the time. That's not what life is.
This is my first read for 2014 and I was surprised by how good this book was. I am the kind of reader who rarely stick her nose to immortal stories for I am scared not to catch up with the history reminiscing & I have little knowledge about immortals except for the fact that they are a hundred-thousands years old dwelling in the world doing all the things that an average human can't achieve in his sole life. But this was a good thing for me. Why? With a little touch of not so depth and thorough throw back of history; a mystery, cryptic  and thrilling present, and a protagonist that alone can earn the book all the goody stars, Immortal Beloved was a pleasant surprise.
“Now he was kissing me, not in a scary way, not with hostility, but with warm, seductive intent. In a hayloft, in the barn, in the middle of the night. This scene brought to you by the letters W, T, and F.”
Nasty was a veryyyy lovable character. She takes humor and sarcasm in a different level. Well for me, her inner thoughts and monologues will truly hold anyone captive in her voice. She was flawed, but she was willing to mend things, but not totally mop over her mistakes cause she had already done those and it was senseless if she wallows longer. That's why her character really stands out.

My only peeve here was Reyn. Reyn is the lord viking for Nasty and I admit that the way he was described exuded his physical perfection (hotness, handsome overload and steaming hot yep and also sexy), but no. I don't really feel his hotness, his attitude (even at the end) and over-all his character. I need more development for him where he isn't just your typical panty-dropping cold love interest.

There was so much going on in this book. Since they, referring to nasty and the other secondary characters, have a lot of experiences and history they have much to discuss about especially when it came to their present problem. The revelations were really mind-blowing. I didn't see that coming!

I thought the book was good and got to be one of the best Immortal books I could ever read. Yes this is coming from someone who hasn't read much of immortal themed books. You will laugh like 70% of the time & you will be mystified and thrilled with the turn of events and revelations. A good way to start 2014!

PS: I dont know why I am utterly empty-minded right now. Lol. I think this review sounds too lame and senseless but anyway thats all I can tell for now (might revised this when my thoughts are over the place)

  1. Sounds like a cool book! The premise totally reminded me of City of Bones (which I must read). I don't like the sound of the love-interest though. I love it when characters are developed....it feels so cheating to just say they're "hot" and expect the readers to love them because of that. Meh. ;)
